Crown work

There are key tree surgery methods, that can be used to control and manage your trees. These methods can be used to achieve a result, based on specific individual requirements and considering the trees overall condition.

Crown reduction, reduces the overall spread and size of the tree. For example, this can reduce the overall stress on large limbs from weight.

Crown thinning, opens up and ‘thins out’ the canopy. This will increase the amount of light that passes through to the surrounding areas. It will also be used to remove any crossing over limbs, that would otherwise be damaging the tree over time. This technique will also reduce the wind resistance on the canopy, potentially lowering the risk of weather damage.

Crown liftingraises the canopy level of the tree exposing the trunk more as a result. Aesthetically, this can look much tidier and impressive. Raising the canopy also allows more clearance for access, as well as letting lower level light through.

Deadwooding, is the removal of dead limbs and branches from a tree. There are many causes of dead limbs in a tree, such as: Light deficiency, pests and diseases, root and structural damage.

Dead limbs will eventually decay and fall. Therefore the process of deadwooding a tree, is often carried out for safety concerns. This can be due to the deadwood overhanging roads, pedestrian footpaths and other public spaces.

Deadwooding can also be carried out for the aesthetic purposes of the tree, as well as to help overall balance of the canopy.

Pollarding, is the process of removing the vast majority of upper tree limbs.

This method is only suitable on certain trees species. It can used to promote concentrated new growth on the main stem, or to significantly reduce the overall size of the tree.

All the above options can be used individually or combined to prolong the life of your trees, as well as for aesthetic purposes.

We will check for Tree Preservation Orders (TPO’s) and Conservation Areas, prior to any works being carried out.  If required, we can submit a planning application on your behalf.
